Grantee: Laundry Workers Center

Starting the week of March 23rd, we are moving over $1.7 million directly into grassroots organizing. We’re moving money as quickly as possible so grantees can focus on organizing and providing aid during this crisis. Using funds from our operations reserve, we will distribute emergency grants to all 120+ North Star Fund grantees. Current spring cycle grantees seeking a renewal will automatically receive their grant.

We call on our giving community—including foundations and individual donors from all backgrounds—to take a strong stand to support organizations that center structural change and that are led by people most impacted by inequality and oppression.

We have launched the Future of Organizing Fund to support direct assistance and grassroots organizing of NYC and Hudson Valley communities in response to the crises created by COVID-19. We’ll share more details about the fund’s decision making structure in the coming weeks.

Join us and take bold, collective action. We believe philanthropy must do—and spend—everything we can to support the work that recognizes the urgency of the moment while fighting for a different future. Please consider supporting the Future of Organizing by making a gift here.

Even though North Star Fund’s offices are physically closed, our team is working remotely and available for community questions or needs. You can reach out to us here.
