Elise Boddie
As a member of the North Star Fund Board of Directors, Elise Boddie contributes her in-depth knowledge of the issues North Star Fund supports, her background in civil rights law, and an abiding commitment to supporting grassroots change.
Elise, an experienced civil rights lawyer and educator, has worked on numerous racial and economic justice cases with a focus on affirmative action and school desegregation. She teaches constitutional law as an associate professor at New York Law School.
Prior to becoming a professor, Elise worked at the NAACP Legal Defense Educational Fund. Elise has also worked for civil law firms in New York City and Washington DC, and the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice. She completed a Harvard Law School Human Rights Fellowship with the Constitutional Rights Project in Lagos, Nigeria.
Elise has a B.A. from Yale University, a J.D. from Harvard Law, and a M.A. in Public Policy from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Her involvement with North Star Fund began as a donor in 2005 and the following years she joined the board of directors. "I decided to take on a leadership role because I respect North Star's work and wanted to help the organization carry out its mission."
Elise finds all of the organizations and issues North Star Fund supports equally important. "North Star supports organizations that are fighting social and economic injustice on the front lines. Its work is inclusive, creative, and informed by people who know and understand the problems faced by communities that struggle on the margins every day."
