North Star News Prize Event Assistant


Scope of work

The event assistant will report to the Development Officer, and will work collaboratively with other staff including Executive Director, Program Associate, and the Communications Manager as needed.

Primary Responsibilities

  1. Participates in the planning and implementation of the North Star News Prize with respect to participants, invitations, fundraising, facilities, equipment, logistical requirements, catering and on-site management;
  2. Ensures that internal follow-up is completed: assists with the follow-up to donors and volunteers;
  3. Tracks and reports on outreach to prospective donors;
  4. Responds to standard email and phone requests or event information; screens calls and takes messages when needed;
  5. Prepares correspondence: edits, proofreads, and formats reports, documents etc;
  6. Coordinates and implements solicitation and acknowledgement mailings;
  7. Data entry including gifts, addresses and other pertinent information;
  8. Creates, organizes and maintains program and event files and archives; makes copies, collates and distributes materials; and communicates details via fax and email;
  9. Assists with coordination of special donor cultivation events, leading to the event;
  10. Assist with production of North Star Fund News Prize Journal.

Qualifications

  • Strong working knowledge of Excel
  • Well organized with attention to detail
  • Team player
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal)

Hours: This position will begin at 20 to 30 hours per week and will become full-time closer to the date of the event, which is January 13, 2009.

Compensation: $15-17 per hour.
