Sarah Ludwig
As a board member, Sarah Ludwig contributes extensive experience as the long-time director of a non-profit advocacy organization, as well as a long history of involvement in the North Star Fund community. Sarah is also co-chair of North Star Fund's Community Funding Committee.
Sarah is the founder and co-director of NEDAP, a resource and advocacy center that supports community groups organizing for economic justice in New York City. NEDAP was a North Star Fund grantee from 1995-2003. Sarah has worked with hundreds of grassroots groups to develop local organizing and advocacy strategies to address redlining and lending discrimination, as a matter of racial and economic justice. She co-leads New Yorkers for Responsible Lending, a state-wide coalition of more than 145 member organizations that promotes access to fair and affordable financial services and combats predatory practices.
Sarah has received various awards for her work, and recently completed a 3-year term on the Federal Reserve Board's Consumer Advisory Council. She is also on the boards of directors of the Consumer Federation of America and the Center for Responsible Lending. In December 2008, she received New York Lawyers for the Public Interest's Felix A. Fishman Award, for her exceptional service on behalf of low income communities.
"North Star Fund supports groups that are marginalized and disenfranchised in the fight for social justice, often taking a gamble on new and emerging organizations. That's a rare frame among funders, who tend not to take risks and ultimately perpetuate the status quo. I'm honored to be part of the North Star Fund board."
