Sheila McDaniel
Sheila McDaniel has over 20 years of experience in finance, fundraising, operations and strategic planning in the non-profit and corporate sectors. She currently works as the Deputy Director of The Studio Museum in Harlem. Previously she worked at The Hetrick-Martin Institute, where she helped open the Harvey Milk High School, and as the director of financial services at Valley Inc Youth Outreach.
Sheila began her career at a reinsurance firm in her hometown of Philadelphia. She studied at Syracuse University and Talladega College, and graduated with a B.A. in economics from Excelsior College.
Sheila's personal experiences allow her to identify with the struggles of low-income New Yorkers and the groups North Star Fund support. "I hope that I represent that you can overcome challenges with dignity-- through hard work, values and a desire to make a contribution to the world."
Being a board member raises Sheila's awareness about the groups creating change in New York City. She enjoys staying connected to her activist roots while doing the behind the scenes work to support the issues and groups she cares about. She feels particularly passionate about North Star Fund's commitment to economic equality. "Everything is an offshoot of economic justice."
As a board member Sheila enjoys working with a dedicated and passionate team of people to do her part to support the social justice movement in New York City. "I love the diversity and inclusiveness of the North Star Fund community. North Star Fund is the world I dream of, and that I am helping to create."
