Protecting Civil Liberties and Constitutional Rights

To expose and curtail poor treatment of female South Asian workers through direct action and legal strategies; and to gain insight into conditions at job sites through our peer education model of training and outreach.

To halt displacement of LGBTSTQ youth from the Christopher Street Pier through the Save Our Space Campaign; to document police harassment and racial/gender profiling of our youth; and to produce media works which highlight issues of concern to LGBTSTQ youth of color.

To advocate for the de-criminalization of homeless people in public spaces, the conversion of vacant property into housing for the homeless, and the availability of respectful and multi-racial emergency services and shelters; and to pass a Homeless Bill of Rights.
Ending Institutional Racism and Discrimination

To support our art and media programming at El Noor School, a local Muslim school for girls; and to produce new media pieces that address critical issues, such as the negative portrayal of Arabs by mainstream media.

To organize synagogue-affiliated groups in support of domestic workers' rights as part of the Shalom Bayit campaign; to organize local immigrant Jews combating issues such as racial profiling; and to building the skills, political analysis and confidence of our membership.

The group's mission is to cover and report on the worldwide struggle for the full liberation of women, especially women of color, and help build a truly multi-cultural feminist movement. The grant will support media training for five young women of color, increased programming and development of an interactive website that contains shows for download and links to activist websites.

To introduce critical-thinking skills as a gateway to organizing work through our Youth Leadership Program; and to bring awareness to police misconduct and provide support for victims through the People's Self-Defense Campaign.

To host one-on-one trainings that increase our members' ability to take on leadership roles, sustain and expand our tenant organizing, and continue our campaign to halt the creation of a water filtration plant in the Bronx's Van Cortlandt Park.

To assist low-income, immigrant, primarily South Asian communities in improving their economic status, combating anti-immigrant policy, and ending violence both within and without their community; and to support our technical assistance programming, youth camp and domestic violence work.
Ensuring Economic Justice

To strengthen the labor movement as a force for equality and social justice; provide support to members seeking to be represented in the leadership of their unions; ensure contract enforcement; and combat the use of intimidation as a technique to prevent members from receiving fair and equal union benefits.

To support the creation of the Economic Justice Center, a center for worker organizing that will be shaped physically and programmatically through a participatory visioning process with workers, community leaders and neighbors.

To train peer counselors to do outreach, education, organizing and preparation for our bilingual HIV Forum, an annual event which empowers HIV-positive Latinas in western Queens so that they may access health services, reestablish a positive sense of self, and educate others on preventing HIV.

To support the NYC Women and HIV Resources Report, a pamphlet and series of focus groups that will inform a public policy and advocacy campaign for healthcare that meets the needs of HIV-infected women; and to continue our work promoting woman-centered models of treatment, increased funding for women's services, and social policies that support women's reproductive rights.
