North Star Fund supports grassroots activism and organizing to achieve social justice and the common good. Our core grantmaking program provides support grants of $5,000, $10,000 and $15,000 to social change organizations in New York City. Our applications are designed to be simple and to the point, so that we have the information we need to make a strategic decisions without burdening the grant-seeker with excess paperwork.
We are not accepting applications at this time. The next application period is projected to begin in August, 2009. North Star Fund has two grant cycles per year, one in the Spring and one in the Fall. Applications are accepted beginning one month before the deadline.
Application process
- To be considered for funding, you must complete an application and submit it to the North Star Fund office by the deadline.
- Our Community Funding Committee will evaluate your application and determine whether to request a site visit with your group. If you are selected, a representative of the North Star Fund will contact you to set up a site visit.
- Grants are awarded approximately 3 months after the application deadline.

Renewal Applications:
North Star welcomes renewal applications from current grantees for up to 6 years. After this time, the group must take a 2-year break before they can reapply for funds. They are then eligible for another 6 years of funding. Renewal applications must continue to meet all eligibility guidelines.
