Welcome to The Roots (Beta).

The Roots is North Star Fund’s online guide to grassroots activism in New York. 'Beta' means that we're testing and evaluating it. That's where you come in. Help us make it better. Let us know what you find useful, as well as your ideas for improvement. Drop us a line at roots@northstarfund.org.

What new features are planned?

Right now you can search groups by name, keywords in their descriptions, their activist methods, and by where they’re working. Within the next few months, you will also be able to find groups by the constituencies that they work with, and the issues that they focus on.

Who’s in here now?

Groups that have received a North Star Fund grant in the last three years, both from our regular grant cycles and through our donor advised program. Because North Star Fund’s close relationship to grassroots community organizing, this is a critical mass of New York’s most effective and innovative activist groups. We make no claim that this is a complete guide. But it’s a great start.
