Established in 2005, Adhikaar is a women-led nonprofit organization that promotes human rights and social justice within the growing Nepali community in New York City. It is the only group that is organizing Nepalis to take collective action against social inequities affecting their communities. They conduct community education, grassroots advocacy, and leadership development to address three areas: healthcare, immigration reform, and workers’ rights. They actively reach out to different groups within the Nepali community to create a safe space where their members can have a dialogue about racism, sexism, casteism, homophobia, and explore their own prejudices and privileges along with their disadvantages.
