The growing Mexican immigrant community in Staten Island faces a lack of living wage jobs, health care and housing. Many immigrants work as day laborers, where they are hired on a daily basis with no guarantee of continued work. El Centro de Hospitalidad, an immigrant worker center in Port Richmond, Staten Island, works with over 2,000 immigrant workers and their families to advocate for their rights.
