Families United for Racial and Economic Equality (FUREE)
Mission
Families United for Racial and Economic Equality is a leading, multi-racial, Brooklyn-based organization made up of over 500 families. FUREEs membership is overwhelmingly comprised of and led by women of color, many of whom are on public assistance. They use community organizing and advocacy to affect the welfare system in order to ensure that peoples work is valued and that they are able to earn a living wage. Through popular education, leadership development and direction action, FUREE ensures that the voices and interest of low-income women are influencing public discourse on the welfare system.
