For 40 years, North Star Fund has taken an approach to grantmaking that is rare in our field. We draw directly from the leadership of local grassroots organizations in order to find the decision-makers for our grants.
This group of leaders—diverse in geography, race, culture, age and organizing approach—give us a unique and comprehensive view of the engines of grassroots change in New York. They volunteer dozens of hours each cycle to ensure that we maintain a fair and competitive process that identifies the best grassroots organizing in our city.
