Vanessa is widely recognized in New York State as an activist in the fight to end men’s violence against women and the fight to end white supremacy.

Vanessa began her anti-violence work in 2001 as the director of the rape crisis program in Orange County, NY. Currently, she is the senior supervisor of the VCS Domestic Violence Program for Men, a NY Model Batterer Program, where she also organizes racial justice and anti-oppression work. In this capacity, Vanessa contributes to undoing structural racism by organizing the annual People’s Institute for Survival and Beyond Undoing Racism Workshop in Rockland County.

Vanessa, along with #100SISTAS, started #FeedThePeopleSquad in September 2016, which mobilizes a committed group of women to provide weekly mealsto low-income and homeless people in Yonkers, NY.

She cofounded #BlackLives Matter Hudson Valley chapter and joined the board of Black Women’s Blueprint. While organizing to end racial injustice in Rockland and Orange Counties, Vanessa took a freedom ride to Ferguson in August 2014 where she spent time organizing with Patrisse Marie Cullors-Brignac and over 600 members from Black Lives Matter chapters from across the country and Canada.

Vanessa was raised by an outspoken and politically active mother, Jean Green, and has two beautiful children, Nyisha and Ahkiem.
