Supporting Black-led Community Safety and Abolition for NYC

August 10, 2020 @ 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM

People outside wearing COVID masks with a banner that says, "We Keep Us Safe"

Abolish. Defund. Reform. These are some of the many calls to action we’ve heard this summer in New York City and around the nation. What do they mean, and how can our history of Black-led organizing in NYC around abolition and alternative models of community safety inform this moment?

North Star Fund invites you to join an afternoon webinar, Supporting Black-led Community Safety and Abolition for New York City. We’ll explore models of community safety and transformative justice strategies that Black activists have developed over the years, and the context for this work in strengthening an abolition movement in NYC.

We’ll also learn about the founding and vision of the Let Us Breathe Fund, and the fund’s work to support community justice, healing and safety while moving us toward a future without police. As always, our conversation will center on what we can do to move more resources towards this work.

We are excited to welcome our speakers, both leaders in imagining and building a police-free New York City:

  • Ejeris Dixon, North Star Fund board member and founding director of Vision Change Win
  • Piper Anderson, founder and president of Create Forward

Accessibility: We’re providing live captioning. If you need other accommodations please reach out to hello@northstarfund.org.

This event is free but requires registration.
