Thanks so much to our 2015 Community Gala honorees. On April 21, 2015 over 500 people joined us as we celebrated the achievements of grassroots community organizers, the philanthropists who support them, and the bold possibilities emerging from our community’s vision and values. Honoring New Yorkers committed to social justice.


Keith Mestrich is the President and CEO of Amalgamated Bank and a leader in the movement for labor unions and nonprofit organizations to build wealth for a purpose, not just a profit. Previously, he advocated for the rights of working people as the CFO and Deputy Chief of Staff for SEIU and as an organizer for the AFL-CIO and UNITE.

Mike Muse is the co-founder of Muse Recordings and an entertainment professional. He is a visionary philanthropist dedicated to amplifying the voices of Black and Brown young people for social change. He has been appointed to the Board of Advisors for the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City and was the youngest person selected for the 100 Black Men of America Achievement Award.

Julissa Reynoso is a partner at the international law firm of Chadbourne & Parke.  She served as the United States Ambassador to Uruguay and Deputy Assistant Secretary of State in the Obama Administration. A past North Star Fund board member, Julissa has an impressive activist record, including co-founding several community-based organizations.

Honoring grassroots activists striving for equality, economic justice, and peace.


Faith in New York is a coalition of 70 multi-faith congregations who work to develop grassroots leadership, influence local decision makers, and advocate for economic justice for working-class and low-income people of all races, religions and sexual orientations. Faith in New York’s advocacy recently helped secure $750 million in Hurricane Sandy rebuild money and New York City’s new municipal ID cards.

The Justice Committee uses political education, direct action, and leadership development to engage Latino/a communities and other people of color in the movement to end police violence and racism in New York City.  In recent years, the Justice Committee has played a key role in organizing for justice for Ramarley Graham alongside his family, turned out thousands during 11 Days of Action against police brutality, and worked with allies to beat back the worst abuses of “stop and frisk.”
