Elz Cuya Jones

Deputy Director

Elz Cuya Jones profile picture

Since 2015, Elz Cuya Jones has been grateful and humbled to be a part of the North Star Fund team, leading our development and strategy efforts.

Elz has worked in nonprofits since 2003, holding development and communications positions at Harlem RBI, Youth Speaks, Women’s Project and Hip-Hop Theater Festival. Today, she continues to be an arts organizer and is a proud board member of MADRE, an international human rights organization on the frontlines of war and disaster. Prior to working in the nonprofit sector, she spent a decade in news radio, where she witnessed the transformational power of storytelling.

Born to immigrant Filipino parents, Elz earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Mass Communications at University of California, Berkeley. She wouldn’t say “Go Bears!” because she hasn’t paid attention to collegiate sports since—well, never. But she will say, #BlackLivesMatter.

She lives in Washington Heights with her husband Russell and son Bolden.

Ask me about:

  • The different ways you can give to North Star Fund
  • How to make the perfect mixtape
  • How New York theaters can step up their community engagement
  • The Oxford comma—yes, no or maybe? (See what she did there?)

You can reach me via email at elz@northstarfund.org.
