Lisa Steglich brings a rich passion for social justice and three decades of political activism to North Star Fund’s Board of Directors since she joined in June 2015. Lisa is the Director of Community Development at Amalgamated Bank where ensures that the Bank meets the needs of all of the community members it serves, including low and moderate income individuals.
Before joining Amalgamated Bank, Lisa served as a Field Organizer in New York State for the Obama-Biden 2012 campaign. She previously worked in the banking sector for ten years. Lisa holds a B.A. from Harvard University in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
Participating in her son’s high school parent-teacher association gave Lisa firsthand insight on the difficulties of navigating a byzantine school system. More importantly, it exposed her to the plight of parents who face added barriers based on class. Lisa remains optimistic that a level playing field is possible by improving the education system, especially by supporting the grassroots organizers committed to ending the school-to-prison pipeline.
As a donor activist, Lisa is an ardent supporter of social justice organizations such as the Southern Poverty Law Center and MoveOn.org.
“Inequalities exist, but we don’t have to be bystanders. By engaging donor activists, North Star Fund gives people many opportunities to become involved in improving the lives of New Yorkers.”
