Mark E. Reed offers insight into nonprofit governance and organizational health from his work on other nonprofit boards and his experience in finance and accounting. After graduating from Stanford University with a degree in cultural anthropology, Mark received an M.B.A. with a concentration in finance from NYU’s Stern School of Business.

He is most interested in housing, noting, “During my work at Mission Neighborhood Centers in San Francisco, I worked in public housing, including efforts to organize tenants. This experience left a permanent impression on me.” His work with Contact Fund LLC is devoted to high-impact community development in New York City.

Mark first became involved with North Star Fund through Resource Generation, an organization that helps young people with wealth to leverage resources and privilege for social change.

“I am married to an African-American woman from a working-class background. Our differing backgrounds and our parenting of three children of mixed race have given us multiple perspectives on the impact of race and class on opportunity.”
