Maya Reyes

Maya joined North Star Fund in 2019 as a Development Coordinator. She is deeply interested in the meeting place of food, land, and personhood. Her research on public space and gentrification as a sociology student at Bowdoin College led her to seek work of all kinds in community building.

Her professional niche is in the realm of mission-driven event planning and programming. She has spent time producing culturally relevant events and organizing educational programs at Socrates Sculpture Park and The Laundromat Project, conducting urban development research and assisting with major citywide initiatives at HR&A Advisors, and exploring her passion for plant-based cuisine and worker cooperatives at Woke Foods. She is also a community gardener in training at Farm School NYC.

Maya stays active in her lifelong community of Queens as an organizer with Regeneración Childcare NYC. She has also created a woman-of-color-centered wine tasting group and keeps a blog with writings on plants and food, mostly through the lens of decolonization.
