Rapid Response Grants

$170,000 in Rapid Response grants.

35 grants awarded.

At times, effective grassroots organizing requires swift action to address sudden crises, changes in legislation or policy, or crucial moments in a campaign—whether to take advantage of breaking opportunities, defend against threats or meet emergent needs. North Star Fund provided dozens of Rapid Response grants to current and emerging grantees—and we continue to make these grants available year-round.

This year we awarded dozens of grants to support:

  • Advancing immigrant rights and direct engagement with asylum seekers
  • Mutual aid in response to health crises for LGBTQ communities
  • Eviction prevention projects throughout New York City and the Hudson Valley
  • The Elder Parole campaign resisting death by incarceration
  • Public protests following the killing of Jordan Neely
  • The fight by Ramapough Mountain Indians for their Rights Of Nature campaign to stop the dumping of Indian Point radioactive waste into the Hudson River
