Occupy City Hall Action

We’ve got big news to share with you about grants at North Star Fund.

First, beginning in 2021, Spring/Summer grants will be for new applicants. Fall/Winter grants will focus on renewal applications from current grantees.

Second, North Star Fund’s spring application cycle is now open! Starting this week, we are accepting grant applications, focusing on new applicants and first-time grantseekers.

We fund grassroots organizing.

Our grantees are organizations building collective power in New York City and the Hudson Valley. We fund both start-ups and established organizations with a track record of success in community organizing. Please read the eligibility criteria and ask questions before submitting an application. All grants are unrestricted. Grants range in size from $10,000 to $20,000. The typical grant is $10,000. Grants are renewable.

For New and First-Time Applicants to North Star Fund

These grants are for new and emerging organizations, first-time applicants and former grantees—not for organizations that currently receive support from North Star Fund. There are three grant opportunities available:

  • NYC Organizing Grants (formerly Catalyst Grants and Grassroots Action Grants). Deadline: March 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm
  • Hudson Valley Organizing Grants (formerly Hudson Valley Momentum Grants). Deadline: March 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm
  • Let Us Breathe Fund Grants Like all of North Star Fund’s grants, the Let Us Breathe Fund supports organizations building collective power through grassroots organizing in New York City and the Hudson Valley, but with a focus on Black-led organizations and organizations focused on police accountability. Deadline: April 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm

For Current Grantees

If your organization currently receives support from North Star Fund, these opportunities are for you:

  • Let Us Breathe Fund Grant. Are you a current North Star Fund grantee but have yet to receive a grant from the Let Us Breathe Fund in the past year? Submit an application by February 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm
  • Renewal Grants for New York City, Hudson Valley, or Let Us Breathe Fund. The deadline will be September 15, 2021 at 5:00 pm. You can expect to hear from us over the summer with more news about the fall application cycle. These grants will be awarded before the end of 2021.
