As of January 18, 2018, North Star Fund has two open positions:
- Administrative Assistant
- Digital Communications Coordinator
Both positions are open until filled.
Are you an administrative whiz with a passion for social justice?
Are you known for being highly organized and excellent at logistical tasks?
Do you love to get the details right so that everything else can run smoothly?
Our activist-led grantmaking process, which puts decision making in the hands of activists on the front lines, shifts the power dynamics of philanthropy, and ensures our resources go directly to communities of color most impacted by systemic racism, poverty, and economic injustice. We streamline our administrative systems as much as possible in order to maximize our resources for grassroots organizations in this challenging political climate. North Star Fund raises almost all the money we grant every year from individual donors committed to ensuring a just and democratic New York City and Hudson Valley.
The Administrative Assistant tracks details in both our donor and grants databases and provides the administrative support to ensure smooth grantmaking processes and successful donor retention. The ideal candidate will be a team player who enjoys detail-oriented work, can comfortably multi-task administrative duties, and finds pride in ensuring the accuracy of data.
This position reports to the NYC Program Officer and works closely with the Development Manager.

Digital Communications Coordinator
Do you tell stories well on social media using text, photos and video?
Do you have experience working with “intermediaries” (foundations, networks, and other organizations that provide support to movements)?
Do you like learning about and teaching digital tools and approaches?
North Star Fund has a long history of producing print publications that tell the story of New York’s vibrant social justice movements. Right now, we need to raise the profile of New York’s movements for justice on online channels. This includes social media channels and online video.
This new position will collaborate with the communications director to be at the forefront of developing a strategy for how we tell stories online. The day-to-day work will balance creating digital content with increasing the number of North Star Fund community members who are amplifying the messages of social justice movements in New York City and the Hudson Valley.
The ideal candidate will enjoy a fast-paced environment, be able to communicate across different constituencies and have experience with the nonprofit and, ideally, social justice sectors. They will understand the specific challenges of intermediaries to use digital media effectively in support of social justice movements.
