2020-2021 Donor-Advised Fund Grants
From summer 2020 to summer 2021, our Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) holders, just like the rest of North Star Fund, moved to meet the moment, and made close to $7 million in grants in 12 months.
We welcomed ten new DAFs and made grants at a faster pace than ever. Our DAF holders combined to make over 500 grants!
A Donor-Advised Fund (DAF) is a giving vehicle that provides you with the ability to support organizations and issues you care about most while also receiving immediate tax benefits. Donor-advised funds are an efficient and cost-effective alternative to private or family foundations.
Our partnership with the Amalgamated Charitable Foundation, which we launched in 2019, has proven to meet our goals: streamlining the contribution and grantmaking process and allowing more flexibility in strategic and responsible investment choices for funds while donors make their grant plans. Feedback about the new system from our DAF holders has been positive, and since we moved to this platform in late 2019, we’ve made over $11 million in grants!
In 2021, a few of our donors have signed onto the #HalfMyDAF challenge, part of the growing movement to make sure that DAFs are stewarded as responsibly as possible, and not just used as vehicles to continue hoarding wealth. A couple of our donors who signed onto #HalfMyDAF won additional funds for their grantees!
